An Ode to Fairouz, the Jewel of the Arab World

Born Nouhad Wadie’ Haddad, Fairouz (meaning turquoise in Arabic) is feted as a national treasure of the Arab world. Known and admired beyond the region, the iconic Lebanese singer, who quickly rose to prominence with her soothing vocals, had the ability to unite entire generations of Arabs through decades of conflict with her music. It’s only fitting that Vogue Arabia honors the legendary singer in its first anniversary issue, with Lebanese poet and novelist Abbas Beydoun penning a tribute to the icon. The homage is accompanied by an ethereal editorial styled by Vogue Arabia fashion director Katie Trotter.
