Originally built in the 1920s as a residence for the King’s advisor in Tangier, Morocco, the Fairmont Tazi Palace Tangier, a stunning palace property, is now open to guests, and is a spot that deserves your attention if you plan on visiting the country this season.

Set upon 8.9 acres of lush and secluded hills overlooking the city, the inviting property houses 133 rooms, suites and penthouses including one Signature Suite, two Penthouses, and one Katara Suite, and has been created to mirror the mysterious charm of the city by offering guest a sweeping view of the space around it. “Tangier is a vibrant and multicultural city infused with Mediterranean spirit, and we’re thrilled to give the opportunity for guests to experience Fairmont’s pioneering approach to unique hospitality while exploring the many cultures and civilizations that have shaped the city’s rich history,” says Fabien Gastinel, General Manager Fairmont Tazi Palace. Guests will find themselves spoilt for choice when selecting their rooms in the Tangier property, as each one in the hotel comes with a tempting view. Choose from forest-facing spaces and rooms that open up to Morocco’s Old City, set against dreamy mountains.

After months of hard work by OBMI & CCCRA Architects, the property was brought to life in a way that honors its original 1920s fixtures, all elevated by newer innovations. Special artworks by artisans of the local Moroccan community dot the space, highlighting age-old techniques like Mousharabieh, Tadelakt and Zellige. It’s impossible to ignore the hotel’s Morocco-inspired interiors, which promise to create a unique ambience that cannot be recreated elsewhere. So much so that even the landscaping around the hotel reflects the history of the country, with centenary eucalyptus trees, along with palm, olive, citrus, and pomegranate groves. What the hotel does, truly, is celebrate the natural beauty of Tangier, while also creating a relaxing ambience.

The property is replete with multiple dining venues—seven, to be precise—with Crudo celebrating Northern Mediterranean flavors, Clémentine highlighting fresh dishes with a strong focus on nutrition, and Parisa offering up unparalleled Persian creations. Fairmont Tazi Palace Tangier is also home to a sprawling wellness centre, with the Fairmont Spa serving as its crown jewel. With an aim to help each visitor reconnect to their mind, body and soul, the spa, which extends over 26,000 square feet, offers a holistic experience via its Spa partners Sodashi, Maison d’Asa, and Swissline Cosmetic, 10 treatment rooms, and sun-kissed outdoor areas, complete with a vitality pool, private spa, solarium, and hammam. For the outdoorsy, the hotel is perfectly located for several must-try activities in Tangier, from authentic Moroccan cooking classes to horseback riding on the beach at sunset and fishing. Reflecting the essence of its tagline, “A majestic immersion to the soul of Tangier,” the Fairmont Tazi Palace Tangier truly is an experience like no other.
