With the highly anticipated Expo 2020 Dubai just around the corner, new details of its opening ceremony have been revealed. The event promises a stellar lineup of performers and crew from all around the world in its 90-minute run. Taking place on September 30, the ceremony aims to bring new perspectives of Dubai and the UAE to global audiences.
Among the lineup of performers are English singer Ellie Goulding, Italian tenor Andrea Boccelli, Grammy-winning artist Angelique Kidjo, singer-songwriter Andra Day and pianist Lang Lang. The range of performances seeks to depict the subthemes of the Expo 2020 — Opportunity, Mobility, and Sustainability.
The ceremony will be held at Al Wasl Plaza, the “beating heart” of the Expo site, giving spectators the first experience of the Plaza. Music, dance, and projections with cutting-edge technology will also enliven the Al Wasl dome – a 360-degree projection screen that is also the largest of its kind.
The ceremony will also feature numerous regional artists including Emirati singer and Expo 2020 Dubai ambassador Hussain Al Jassmi, singers Mohamed Abdo and Ahlam Alshamsi, emerging singer-songwriter Almas and Lebanese-American Grammy-nominated singer Maysaa Karaa.
Coinciding with the nation’s Golden Jubilee, a number of exciting shows and experiences await Expo 2020 visitors. Al Wasl Plaza will also be the venue for the Expo’s Infinite Nights concert series, set to be kicked off by renowned Iraqi singer Kadim Al Sahir on October 15. The sustainable UAE Pavilion of the Expo also contains an auditorium at its center where visitors can witness various spectacular shows.
The Expo 2020 Dubai opening ceremony will be broadcast on multiple channels across the world including Expo TV.
