On Monday, April 17, UNICEF announced the appointment of Emirati singer Balqees Fathi as one of its ambassadors. The role requires a commitment to raising awareness and advocating for children’s rights and well-being, and Fathi will be using her melodious voice to promote donations towards children’s health, education, and protection, particularly for those who are most vulnerable and marginalized.
“We are delighted to welcome Balqees to the UNICEF family,” said Eltayeb Adam, UNICEF Representative to the Gulf Area. “Her passion for children’s rights and her commitment to making a difference in the lives of children are truly inspiring. We look forward to working with her to support UNICEF’s mission in the Gulf Area and beyond.”
For Fathi, this is a humbling opportunity that she views as a great honor. “I am committed to using my voice and platform to help ensure that every child has the chance to grow up healthy, educated, and protected. As a mother and an artist, I understand the importance of investing in our children and providing them with the support and resources they need to thrive.”
This is not the first time that the 34-year-old has contributed towards helping children around the world. Her previous humanitarian work, including recent efforts to raise funds for UNICEF’s emergency response to the earthquakes in Syria and Türkiye, is testament to her commitment to UNICEF’s cause and her new role as their ambassador.
“I have seen first-hand the devastating impact that emergencies can have on children and families. That is why I am committed to supporting UNICEF’s lifesaving work, and to advocating for the rights and wellbeing of every child,” added Fathi.
