10 Emirati designers are set to showcase their work in an exhibition in Italy as part of Milan Design Week (Salone Del Mobile International Design Fair,) which kicks off tomorrow and runs until April 22.
The exhibition is entitled UAE Design Stories: The Next Generation From the Emirates and was curated by Emirati product designer Khalid Shafar, whose aim is to shine a spotlight on the homegrown creative talent from the United Arab Emirates. The participating talents include 2017 DDFC/Vogue Arabia Fashion Prize accessories design finalist Alia bin Omair, Dubai-born visual artist Zeinab Al Hashemi, interior designers Alia Mazrooei and Roudha Al Shamsi, multidisciplinary designers Aljoud Lootah and Salem Al Mansoori, sculpture artist Azza Al Qubaisi, architect Abdalla Al Mulla, Bedouin Emirati artist Ahmad Al Areef, artist Latifa Saeed, and food designer Bader Najeeb.
The theme of the exhibition is an exploration of the Emirati landscape and will feature everything from furniture to jewelry and culinary experiences. It will presented by Dubai Design District (d3). “d3 will continue to support, promote and spotlight talent from the region at a local, regional and international level, demonstrating the evolving design scene in the UAE,” said CEO of d3, Mohammad Saeed Al Shehhi in a statement.
For those who won’t be able to make it to Italy for the annual Salone Del Mobile International Design Fair, the six-day exhibition will be showcased during Dubai Design Week from November 13-19, following a stop at the London Design Festival in September for the second exhibition entitled Nomadism: Yesterday & Now, where the same ten designers will display commissioned pieces.
UAE Design Stories: The Next Generation From the Emirates will take place from April 17-22. It will be open to the public from 11am – 9pm every day. RSVP to rsvp@dubaidesigndistrict.com
