Emirati astronaut Sultan Al Neyadi has been regularly sharing content from his journey on social media. And the latest is the perfect gift from space – a video of Mecca and Madina lit up at night to mark the occasion of the night of power in Ramadan, Laylat al Qadr.
This night is considered by Muslims to be the holiest one throughout the year, and is marked by abundant acts of worship. It is believed that only the first verses of the Quran were revealed during Laylatal Qadr, but this night of power is also worth a thousand nights of worship. In addition to the holy cities of Mecca and Madina, Al Neyadi’s video also shows the Grand Mosque which was probably full of worshippers praying Isha and Taraweeh prayers at the time.

The stunning visuals were presented by Al Neyadi, who is currently making history with the longest Arab space mission, as a gift for “Salman’s children,” a reference to the King Salman bin Abdulaziz of Saudi Arabia. His caption also included a dedication to the kingdom itself, “dedicated to the country of the Two Holy Mosques, the land of revelation and the land of the message, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.” In the end, the video also pans over to show Jeddah and other parts of the kingdom.
