Known to change its cast every two seasons due to chronological progression, The Crown has now revealed that Australian actor Elizabeth Debicki will play Princess Diana in the fifth and sixth seasons of the show.
The official Twitter handle of the Netflix-original confirmed the news in a tweet that stated, “Elizabeth Debicki will play Princess Diana in the final two seasons of The Crown (Seasons 5 and 6).” The tweet was accompanied by Debicki’s statement which read: “Princess Diana’s spirit, her words and her actions live in the hearts of so many. It is my true privilege and honor to be joining this masterful series, which has had me absolutely hooked from episode one.”

Debicki is also set to star in Christopher Nolan’s upcoming espionage thriller Tenet and is well known for her performances in The Great Gatsby, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, The Night Manager, and Widows.
Recently, The Crown also cast veteran actor Jonathan Pryce to play the role of Prince Philip alongside Imelda Staunton of Harry Potter fame who will play the role of Queen Elizabeth II in the last two seasons. They will be stepping in for Tobias Menzies and Olivia Colman, respectively. The other confirmed star is Lesley Manville, who will feature as Princess Margaret, taking over the role from Helena Bonham Carter.
In July, The Crown creator Peter Morgan revealed that the series will run for six seasons after all, following their January announcement that season five would be the drama’s final year. “As we started to discuss the storylines for season 5, it soon became clear that in order to do justice to the richness and complexity of the story we should go back to the original plan and do six seasons,” Morgan said in a statement on July 9. “To be clear, Season 6 will not bring us any closer to the present day – it will simply enable us to cover the same period in greater detail.”
The upcoming fourth season of The Crown, which is slated to premiere later this year, will cover the lives of Queen Elizabeth II and the British royal family during the Princess Diana era, as well as Margaret Thatcher’s turn as Prime Minister, which will be played by Gillian Anderson.
