Ibrahim Al Jarwan, Chairman of the Emirates Astronomy Society has astronomically confirmed that Friday, April 21 will be the first day of Shawwal and thus mark the occasion of Eid Al Fitr. Al Jarwan was quoted by the UAE Barq, “Ramadan’s full moon will be on Thursday, April 20, 2023, at 8:36 am local time, while the crescent of the moon of Shawwal will be born on Thursday, April 20, 2023, at 8:13 am, and will set 22 minutes after sunset.”
The government has not yet agreed to the dates confirmed by Al Jarwan but if they do so then official holidays will most likely start on Friday, April 21, and last till Monday, April 24.
