In honor of the memory of Diana, Princess of Wales, the Duke, and Duchess of Sussex spent the anniversary of her death on August 31 engaged in precisely the sort of volunteer work the late Princess loved so much. During a visit to the Preschool Learning Centre at the Assistance League of Los Angeles, Harry and Meghan helped children to replant the nursery’s garden with flowers and vegetables, “sharing their appreciation for nature and helping to instill the importance of healthy eating” for pupils, according to the school’s Instagram page. The nationally-accredited institution currently provides tuition to 40 students from low-income families in the LA area.
Perhaps the sweetest part of the day? The Duke and Duchess’s decision to seed forget-me-nots, which were famously Diana’s favorite flower. Meghan previously chose to include the tiny, delicate blossoms in her wedding bouquet as a tribute to her late mother-in-law – with Harry allegedly picking the flowers from his own garden ahead of their nuptials at St George’s Chapel in Windsor on 19 May 2018.
Meanwhile, when sharing a first image of baby Archie on 12 May 2019, the Duke and Duchess deliberately chose to take the photograph in front of a bed of forget-me-knots. “Paying tribute to all mothers today – past, present, mothers-to-be, and those lost but forever remembered,” the couple wrote on Instagram. “We honor and celebrate each and every one of you. Today is Mother’s Day in the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Kenya, Japan, and several countries across Europe. This is the first Mother’s Day for The Duchess of Sussex.”
