What Happened When the Duchess of Sussex Met Michelle Obama

Talk about a power meeting. New reports out of London say that on Monday night, Meghan, Duchess of Sussex had an audience with Michelle Obama after the former FLOTUS’s speech at the Royal Festival Hall (she’s currently on a press tour for her book, Becoming).

According to The Evening Standard, “They spoke at length about the importance of supporting and empowering women across all cultures and communities.” Other alleged topics of conversation? Pregnancy, raising kids, and education for women. Obama also gave the royal some advice in the new issue of Good Housekeeping UK, noting that, like herself, “Meghan probably never dreamt that she’d have a life like this.”

“The pressure you feel—from yourself and from others—can sometimes feel like a lot,” she told the magazine. “So my biggest piece of advice would be to take some time and don’t be in a hurry to do anything.”

But, when she is ready, Obama has some thoughts: “What I’d say is that there’s so much opportunity to do good with a platform like that—and I think Meghan can maximize her impact for others, as well her own happiness, if she’s doing something that resonates with her personally,” she said.

Prince Harry and the Obamas have long enjoyed a special relationship—especially after they worked on the 2016 Orlando Invictus Games together. In September 2017, Harry and President Obama attended a wheelchair basketball game together at the Toronto Invictus Games, and little over a month later, Harry visited a Chicago school with Michelle. However, the Obamas did not attend the royal couple’s wedding this May (not so surprising, as they did not invite any political figures). Now, it seems, Michelle and Meghan are forging a bond of their own.
