Mexican cineplex chain Cinépolis is all set to steamroll its way to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. With 437 theatres in 97 cities, the largest cinema paradigm in Latin America and fourth largest exhibition spectacle in the world has recently announced the locations of six new movie theatres to be launched in Saudi by 2021.
The Kingdom recently lifted a 35-year ban on cinemas with the first screening event held in Riyadh in April 2018. Till now, Saudi residents had to travel to neighboring countries to enjoy a cinematic experience. The lifting of the 35-year cinema ban has been a part of a long-term Vision 2030 reform program that aims to pique and expand the economy of Saudi Arabia.
Cinépolis marks an era of monumental and significant transformation in the Kingdom. In partnership with leading developers, Al-Hokair Group along with its regional partner Al-Tayer group, Cinépolis intends to be a leading exhibitor in Saudi within a five year benchmark.
Its launch in the Saudi Arabia entertainment market is a breakthrough for expansion strategy, increasing its culture and entertainment beneficence, providing paramount cinematic experience to the audience with its high-touch theatre concepts. These include Luxury, Premium, Macro XE, 4D Emotion technology auditoria and kid-approved Cinépolis Junior auditoriums featuring a jungle gym, slide and ball pool for the ultimate cinema experience. All locations will also feature the usual cinema snacks along with dedicated baristas at the in-house coffee shop Coffee Tree.
Apart from Dammam’s Lulu Mall (set to open in 2020), the new openings will be located in Al-Hokair Time in Jazan, Obhur Mall in Jeddah, Cordoba Mall in Riyadh, Najran City Center and Al-Massarh Mall (set to open in 2021), with a total of 63 screens across all six locations.
With Cinépolis launching its new theatres, Saudi Arabia is set-to enter the top ten cinema markets in the world by 2030.
