The pop star was told that she’d have to complete a test before she could wed.

Britney Spears finally found the church of her dreams while planning her wedding to Sam Asghari, but she claims they wouldn’t let her hold her ceremony there without taking a test first.

In a since-deleted Instagram post, the pop star, who was raised Southern Baptist, shared a photo of the inside of a church taken during another couple’s wedding. She wrote in the caption, “This is where I originally wanted to get married during COVID!!!!” She explained, “I wanted to go every Sunday…it’s beautiful and they said it was temporarily shut down due to COVID!!!! Then 2 years later when I wanted to get married there they said I had to be catholic and go through TEST!!!!” Spears chose not to share the name of the congregation, but she added, “Isn’t church supposed to be open to all????” A number of the singer’s followers explained in the comment section that it’s just a religious custom that you have to be Catholic to marry in the Catholic Church.

While Spears ultimately didn’t get to hold the event at her dream venue, she and Asghari still had the wedding of their dreams, hosting the ceremony in the backyard of Spears’s Thousand Oaks, California mansion in June. The fairytale-themed event, complete with Cinderella horse-drawn carriage, was attended by stars like Selena Gomez, Madonna, Paris Hilton, Drew Barrymore, and fashion designer Donatella Versace, who also created the bride’s dress for the big day. The week after the ceremony, the pop star also made it crystal clear on Instagram who was not invited to her nuptials, denying the tabloid speculation that her brother Bryan and mother Lynne Spears had ever been asked to attend.

Spears and Asghari first met on the set of her music video ‘Slumber Party’ in October 2016 where they exchanged numbers. However, it took another five months before they reconnected. The pair made their relationship Instagram official a little over a year later on New Year’s Day 2017. And, in September 2021, after almost five years of dating, Asghari finally popped the question with a custom ring designed by Roman Malayev and engraved with his nickname for Spears, “Lioness.”
