BAFTAs 2019: Everything You Need To Know

From the nominations to the host, here are all the details of the BAFTAs 2019.

The BAFTAs are perennially the biggest night of the year for British film, celebrating the stars of the screen and the movies of the moment. The conversations at last year’s ceremony were dominated by the Me Too movement and the Time’s Up campaign, which had resonated from Hollywood across the film industry and other fields after the numerous sexual assault allegations and gender inequality that had emerged in the months prior. It remains to be seen how prominently the issues will continue to be addressed at this year’s, the 72nd, BAFTAs, but – as at this week’s Golden Globes – it seems certain that they won’t go unreferenced.

Who is hosting the BAFTAs 2019?

Joanna Lumley is hosting the ceremony for the second time, following a brilliant debut at the BAFTAs 2018 where she took over the duties from 12-time presenter Stephen Fry. On the entertainment front, Cirque de Soleil will also return with their own award-winning acrobatics, following a performance last year inspired by Guillermo del Toro’s The Shape of Water (for which he won Best Director).

Who is nominated at the BAFTAs 2019?

This year’s Rising Star nominees, which were revealed the week before, are Letitia Wright (Black Panther), Lakeith Stanfield (Sorry to Bother You), Cynthia Erivo (Widows), Barry Keoghan (American Animals), and Jessie Buckley (Beast).
