King Mohammed VI of Morocco underwent heart surgery yesterday, June 14, and after the operation was announced a success by state news agency MAP, Arab celebrities flooded social media with well-wishes for the King’s speedy recovery. Treated for a heart rhythm disorder known as “atrial flutter” at the Royal Palace Hospital in Rabat according to official reports, this was His Majesty’s second procedure in two years aiming to help normalize his heartbeat with the first occurring in Paris in February 2018. When the eldest son of the late King Hassan II’s most recent surgery was also deemed successful by His Majesty’s physicians, many of Morocco‘s biggest stars took to Instagram to share the positive news, writing healing messages and posting photographs of the long-reigning monarch of Morocco for two decades.
“HM King Mohammed VI of Morocco, may God bless him, has undergone a successful surgical operation on Sunday, 14 June 2020, in the Royal Palace Hospital in Rabat,” captioned Moroccan singer Asma Lamnawar in a post to her 5.4 million followers earlier today. “O Allah, make the harm go away, Lord of mankind, and heal him, You are the Healer, there is no healing except your healing, a healing that does not leave any sickness.”
Grammy Award-winning Moroccan music producer Nadir Khayat, otherwise known as RedOne, shared his adoration for His Majesty and praised God for the favorable results. “Alhamdoulilah the surgery went great..we love you our beloved king,” he wrote.
While we await further updates on the King’s health and his journey to recovery, here are a few more of the tributes and prayers in Arabic, French, and English from Morocco’s acclaimed singers, actors, and designers.
