Even the most seasoned drivers in the UAE risk getting lost with a mind-boggling sprawl of diversions and new road networks opening and closing daily. Thanks to tech giants Apple, the chances of that happening are lower than ever with the release of their Apple Maps software, which is now available throughout the region.

The genius turn-by-turn directions ready for use across the country could be life-changing for many of us. Previously unavailable, the service is now active, meaning you should be able to use Apple Maps straight away, using an iPhone, iPad, Mac, or Apple Watch. The system’s guide also handily offers directions in English and Arabic for journeys whether driving or walking.

An exciting additional feature is the ability to share your ETA with friends, ask Siri to check a flight status, add your most frequented locations to ‘Favorites’ and build ‘Collections’ of places you love, places you’d like to go, and places you wish to share with friends – a planner’s dream!

One concern around the use of the app is, of course, privacy. Apple commented on the topic in a release saying: “Maps goes further to obscure a user’s location on Apple servers when searching for a location through a process called fuzzing”.

It also went on to explain that Maps doesn’t actually require a user to sign-in to use the service, and any data collected is associated with random identifiers that continually reset to ensure the best experience and to improve the app.

In the next few days, the app will also introduce its indoor maps version, too. This enhancement will offer users the ability to navigate inside Dubai International Airport, Festival City Mall, and The Dubai Mall. A welcome helping hand for making the most of your trips to the airport and the cities huge malls.
