In her next big project, Angelina Jolie will be entering the world of Fashion Week as an on-screen filmmaker. Find out more below.
From the big screen to the small, we’re currently being inundated with fashion-focused projects – documentaries, dramas and eye-opening miniseries which take audiences behind the scenes at fashion shows, behind the curtains at sumptuous ateliers and inside the private offices of the industry’s biggest players to give us a real insight into what actually goes on in this glossy and frequently tumultuous world. There was Disney+’s Cristóbal Balenciaga, Becoming Karl Lagerfeld and In Vogue: The 90s; Apple TV+’s The New Look and La Maison; and High & Low – John Galliano, to name but a few – and now, yet another splashy saga seems to be vying to become the next Phantom Thread: a Paris Fashion Week-set spectacle centred on Oscar winner Angelina Jolie.
On 19 November, Variety broke the news that the star of Maria – who is currently in the midst of an Oscar campaign for playing legendary soprano Maria Callas in Pablo Larraín’s sun-soaked elegy, and will, barring disaster, be on the Best Actress shortlist come 2025 – had signed onto her next project. Reportedly titled Stitches, it is, per its log line, “set in the world of high fashion and unfolds in Paris [with] Jolie [starring] in the movie as a filmmaker [who] is one of three women whose lives will collide during Fashion Week.”
So far, so intriguing. Filming is expected to kick off at the start of next year, with French director Alice Winocour (Disorder, Proxima, Paris Memories) at the helm, and Stitches marking the filmmaker’s English-language debut.
The biggest question which remains, though, is who on earth will join Jolie in this stylish new romp? A-listers, fashion favourites and impossibly glamorous French girls assemble – and let the battle commence.
