Egypt’s Stars Come Together to Remember the Late Ahmed Zaki

Though it has been 13 years since the passing of Ahmed Zaki, his legacy lives on. On Sunday night, Egypt’s most prominent stars joined forces in an emotional advertising campaign, entitled “Gathering For Goodness”, to remember the late actor, who left an inedible mark on Egyptian cinema.

In honor of the star, who tragically lost his battle with lung cancer at the age of 55 on March 27, 2005, actors Yousra, Hend Sabri, Sherine Rida, and Ahmed Helmy all starred in a short visual in an effort to raise funds to help build a new cancer treatment ward for patients at the 500500 New National Cancer Institute in Cairo.

The three-minute visual, which was unveiled on the 500500 New National Cancer Institute’s official Facebook page, was accompanied by an emotional song performed by Egyptian singer Sherine Abdel-Wahab. Directed by Tamer Mohsen (he of Ott we Far), the moving video was filmed at Cairo’s Metro Cinema, one of the North African country’s oldest theaters. Zaki’s only child with Egyptian actress Hala Fouad (who also lost her life to cancer), Haitham Ahmed Zaki, also makes a cameo in the clip.

Since its time of posting, the video has garnered over 240,000 views on Facebook and hundreds of positive comments from fans. Many users took to Twitter to express their sentiments about the stirring ad campaign.
