All the Exciting Performances You Don’t Want to Miss at Abu Dhabi Festival 2020

The Abu Dhabi Festival of joy, culture, and art is back for its 17th edition from March 31 to April 9, 2020, brimming with a breathtaking line up of artists with performances that will leave you speechless. The festival encompasses a total of 46 performances with over 300 artists. 

The overall program features multiple genres of performances including ballet, opera, poetry, jazz, theatre, and orchestra. With the festival’s theme being Unity: Celebrating the Cultural Foundation, the event will pay homage to the Abu Dhabi institution which plays a major role in boosting UAE’s landscape. The patent preview concert will be held on January 24 curated by US director Johanna Settle and Emirati playwright Reem Almenhali to work on a beautiful multimedia poetry and theatre performance about different aspects of womanhood and the idea of how life can subtly change us all. The performance will be held at NYUAD.

To kick start the festival officially on March 31, world-renowned Orchestra, The Cleveland Orchestra will take the stage in Abu Dhabi featuring the famous British baritone, Sir Simon Keenlyside. Opus 64, and Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 5 are some of the arias which will be performed. 

On April 1, world-famous cellist and winner of 18 Grammy awards, Yo Yo Ma will accompany the Cleveland Opera to perform Dvořák’s Cello Concerto in B Minor and Schubert’s Symphony No. 9 in C Major ‘The Great’, D. 944. What’s more, on April 3 and 4, one of the world’s most respected dance companies, American Ballet Theatre (ABT) will perform Shakespeare‘s Romeo and Juliet joined by The Cleveland Orchestra at the Emirates Palace. This will be ABT and Cleveland Orchestra’s first-ever performance together.

To close the festival, two times Grammy award winner Gregory Porter will take the stage at the Emirates Palace to dazzle the crowd with his jazz melody.
