Ever since Rihanna released her last studio album, Anti in 2016, fans have been longing for more. Seems like the wait might be over as the Barbadian singer has recently updated fans on her highly-anticipated next album and has assured them that it will be “worth the wait”.

Despite not releasing an album in four years, the former Vogue Arabia cover star has explained that she is “always” working on new material but does not want to release her work until she is completely happy with it. Speaking to New! about the upcoming album, the Grammy-award winning singer explained, ”I’m always working on new music. Just because I haven’t released an album in a few years doesn’t mean I haven’t been working on it. I’m not just going to put music out because people are craving it. I’m going to make it worth the wait – and it will be worth the wait.”

Her new album, called R9 by fans, will be the singer’s ninth studio album and is sure to be a success. As one of the best-selling artists of all time and the wealthiest female in the music industry, Rihanna is no stranger to commercial success and critical acclaim for much of her previous work. Along with her music, Rihanna’s other pursuits are about “achieving excellence,” she explained saying that she has to believe in what she is doing. “That’s why I will never put an album out for the sake of it or do a movie for the sake of it or a fashion collaboration for the sake of it. I have to believe in it,” she said.

Although Rihanna has been relatively quiet on the music scene for the last four years, she has been extremely busy with many of her other business ventures, including an acting role in the 2018 film Ocean’s Eight, and more predominantly her successful Fenty clothing and Fenty Beauty brands. Since its launch in 2017, Fenty Beauty has been met with huge praise. The cosmetic brand is celebrated for its broad inclusivity across skin tones, especially regarding its Pro Filt’r foundation. Most recently, the beauty mogul expanded Fenty Beauty and released her highly-anticipated Fenty Skin line, which like many of her other pursuits, has been highly loved.
