It’s Beyoncé‘s birthday today but the celebrations took off early last night. The singer shared a slideshow on Instagram that showed her backstage at a Made in America performance in Philadelphia. In most of the photographs, she’s holding a classic birthday cake with white icing.
Local bakery Cake Life Bakeshop confirmed to Vogue that they crafted the funfetti cake with buttercream frosting and rainbow sprinkles. It’s not the first time Beyoncé has enjoyed one of their sweet treats: in 2017, when Beyoncé was also in town for Made in America, they baked a multi-tier black and gold creation for the singer. “We love a repeat customer any day of the week, but when its Beyoncé—it’s just that much more special,” co-owner Lily Fischer said.
Beyoncé seemed seriously enthused about the confection. She included a video of herself dancing onstage with the cake as the crowd sang Happy Birthday. In it, you can get a glimpse of her vintage Jean Paul Gaultier lace-up blouse. Another snap shows Jay Z popping a bottle of champagne to celebrate.
She was also spotted enjoying Lizzo’s performance at the festival—a fact the “Truth Hurts” singer joyfully tweeted about.
What will Beyoncé do for her actual birthday? No word yet. But last year, she celebrated in Sardinia, Italy. To mark the occasion, she posted a photo of herself and Jay Z on vacation along with a heartfelt caption. “This year has been monumental for me. I thank God for everyone in my life. Thank you for all the positivity and for the beautiful birthday wishes,” she wrote. “I’m looking forward to continuing to learn from my past, living in the present, and surrendering to the future.” If the early festivities are any indication, 38 is already looking very bright for Bey.
