Victoria Beckham has firmly been in her long hair era for some time now, but it looks like the singer-turned-designer has returned to the shoulder-grazing lengths she was known for in her ‘90s pop star days as one fifth of the Spice Girls.

A snap posted to Instagram from a family holiday to Vegas shows she’s lopped her recently waist-length hair to her collarbone just in time for an autumn hair refresh.

She paired the new chop with a very Posh Spice-worthy all-black outfit – a strapless, tailored jumpsuit – that looks like she’s revisited her own archive.

Victoria Beckham’s long bob hair was a trademark part of her aesthetic in the ‘90s. Styled straight and round-brushed, Victoria’s new chop isn’t far off her 1997 aesthetic – which just goes to show trends are cyclical (even when they’re your own).

As for autumn haircut inspiration, the shorter style is actually inspired. “Blunt, clean mid-length cuts will be huge this autumn season,” notes celebrity hairstylist and ColorWow international creative director, Dom Seeley. “It keeps the hair healthy, promotes thickness and volume and gives an effortless, cool girl persona,” he says. Plus, it offers up a practical purpose.

According to leading hair stylist and trend forecaster, Tom Smith, lopping back the length and layers “have a practical element that facilitates the generous trimming of hairs after a summer of potential damage.” Shorter cuts can prune away parched and wispy ends and ensure hair looks healthier, plus they pair perfectly with a roll-neck. (Victoria has kept her length long enough to tuck into her collar – a more recent trademark move.) If you’ve been on the fence about chopping your own locks this season, consider this a sign.
