The Smoky Eye Just Got a Sophisticated Update at Christian Dior Fall 2019 Couture

Christian Dior Fall 2019 Couture.

The smoky eye. A classic in the beauty books. One, that the creative and image director for Christian Dior Makeup, Peter Philips drew upon for the houses fall 2019 couture show. Hinting his work a few days ago by posting a Tri(O)blique eyeshadow palette on his Instagram page, this was the same palette which inspired the final makeup look. The idea began when Philips gifted Christian Dior’s artistic director Maria Grazia Chiuri the same palette at the houses 2020 cruise show in Marrakech. They say great minds think alike and in this case, it was true, with her having been thinking about smoky eyeshadow for the houses upcoming Haute Couture show.

Taking this brief to the next level, this is high fashion, after all, he paired back the concept whilst still pumping up the drama. Creating a halo of shadow across the eye he blended kohl liner on top. Forgoing mascara, the vibe was that of an haute couture look. Strong but not too seductive. Ensuring a gap was left between the shadow and brow kept the eyeshadow from overpowering the model’s features. With eyebrows groomed and the complexion simply left with a translucent finish, this is a trend that can be recreated off the runway too. Veil optional.
