Celebrity hairdresser Rossano Ferretti, who is responsible for the luscious locks of Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, Jennifer Lawrence, and Kate Moss, and dreaming up one of the most innovative haircutting technique to date, “The Method” (aka the most expensive haircut in the world,) has just opened up his inaugural venture in the Middle East. The super luxurious hair spa is set in Dubai’s affluent district of Jumeirah. So naturally, when I received the invitation to have my hair cut by Ferretti, I couldn’t turn it down – a cut by the Italian hairdresser costs US$1,500, while a cut by one of his highly trained stylists costs between $155 and $300.
Tucked away in a fully converted villa on the palm tree-dotted Jumeirah Beach Road, the luxurious, multilevel hair spa features a treatment room as well as two private VIP rooms for clients that value discretion. As well as cutting, coloring, and styling, the salon also offers extensions, manicures, pedicures, and waxing. I arrived at the hair spa on a particularly sunny afternoon, and immediately noticed how the natural light flooded the spacious reception-lounge area. The walls were framed with refined, blackened-oak, creating a sophisticated and soothing atmosphere.
Once Ferretti was ready for me, I was led into one of the private VIP rooms. The room featured a hair-washing station, one haircutting chair, and a full-length mirror. Once my hair was thoroughly shampooed, I rooted myself on the salon chair and waited for the master stylist. He entered, wearing a grey double-breasted blazer and a silk scarf wrapped around his neck. “So what do you want me to do?” he asked, clutching a portion of my chocolate lengths.
At this point, I had been growing my hair for two years and was happy with its hip-grazing length, despite its oftentimes dull appearance. “I just want a trim,” I replied. Ferretti shook his head. “I’m going to cut your hair in a way that suits you,” he said. Not one to argue with a man who has built his own mini empire (he owns 20 salons across the globe,) I simply nodded.
He proceeded to cut my hair without any instructions or guidance. He didn’t section or part my strands, allowing it to just fall naturally. He used his entire upper body to snip my lengths, never standing still. He then picked up a pair of patented scissors, which cuts just 18% of hair instead of the traditional 30%, to create his famous “invisible cut.”
The result was striking. My noticeably healthier-looking strands fell into soft, textured waves at my collarbones, looking significantly fuller and shinier than they had ever been. As well as looking better, it felt great too. My hair was much softer (I could actually run my fingers through it), and far from lifeless. All that was needed was a tiara to complete my new princess-worthy strands.
