Two sheets of kink-free, super slick hair is decidedly 2017. Especially when parted perfectly down the middle, as seen at both Victoria Beckham Spring 2017 and Acne Studios Spring 2017, or with a deep side part à la Balmain Spring 2017. Vogue Arabia investigates how the top hairstylists captured the look and made it feel fresh again.
“The mood for this entire look is simplicity,” says A-list hairstylist and fashion week favorite Guido Palau, backstage at Victoria Beckham Spring 2017. “Heated tools are absolutely able to get this poker-straight finish. It’s quick; the satin finish makes it super modern and slick,” he adds. The look is fuss-free and understated enough to make way for extreme tailoring from the likes of Balenciaga’s Spring offering, or for outlandish key pieces from Gucci.
Sam McKnight, hairstylist for Balmain Spring 2017, notes that the new-season collective was all for “long, smooth, and poker-straight hair.” McKnight’s styling needed to complement the sensual cut-out gowns at Olivier Rousteing’s summery collection. “I wanted to have the hair down with deep side partings on models’ heads to create this warrior ‘strict’ impact,” he says. How to create this Boudicca look at home, without over-drying hair and losing its natural vitality? “Once you’ve finished washing your hair in the shower, do a final rinse with a bottle of mineral water. Hard water – as found in most big cities – can make your hair feel drier and duller,” he says.
Outside the shows, the front row attendees also channeled the straight hairstyling vibe. From runway to real-life, scroll down to our edit of street stylers working the look.
