Sonam Kapoor Preps For Her Wedding With Bridal-Style Henna

Sonam Kapoor is getting married to businessman Anand Ahuja in Mumbai on Tuesday. Ahead of the big day, the Bollywood beauty has began her pre-wedding celebrations with family and close friends, who all took to their social media accounts to share photographs of Kapoor getting traditional mehendi (bridal-style henna) designs on her hands and feet courtesy of Bollywood’s “henna queen” Veena Nagda.

The ceremony was also attended by Bollywood celebs Karan Johar, Arjun Kapoor, Shanaya Kapoor, and Janhvi Kapoor wearing traditional garbs in coordinating pastel hues— The invitation’s dress code read “Indian festive shades of white.”

The mehendi or henna ceremony is the Eastern answer to a bridal shower. The pre-wedding ritual, which is practiced across many regions including in the Middle East and North Africa, sees the bride-to-be getting her hands and feet adorned with the plant-based dye. Early mehendi designs were simple colorings on the bride’s palm and feet, but now, the age-old technique comes in the form of varying and intricate patterns and designs, placements, and even colors (see white henna). In addition to its beauty, henna is believed to strengthen the union of the soon-to-be couple— It’s said that the richer the color of the bride’s henna is, the more fruitful her marriage will be. If Kapoor’s deep brown curlicue’s and swirls are any indication, we foresee a lifetime of happiness.
