Last night in Los Angeles, Selena Gomez stepped out for the premiere of the Apple TV documentary Selena Gomez: My Mind and Me. The film centres on a dark period of the pop star’s life and the steps she took to step into a new light. Her look served as a visual marker of this bold and buoyant era, punctuated by a chic tangerine manicure that brought to mind the season’s more effulgent hues.

“Sunset yellow for our sunshine girl,” captioned nail artist Tom Bachik, transforming the orange polish into that final burst of evening saturation. Coupled with a fuchsia Rodarte dress and shimmering accessories, Gomez’s look felt entirely celebratory and quelled any notions of eschewing colour as the year wanes. Since the clocks have just gone back, which has encroached on our daily rays, why not combat any gloom with a pull of sun-inspired polish? After all, as Gomez is out to prove, we make our own light.
