Selena Gomez is a strong advocate for mental health and has always been refreshingly open about her struggles with depression and anxiety. This year, on her 28th birthday, she launched the Rare Impact Fund, which aims to raise $100 million over the next ten years to help address the gaps in mental health services, particularly for underserved communities. To achieve that goal, one percent of all sales from her cosmetics company – Rare Beauty, as well as funds raised from partners will go towards this fund. By the time the fund hits $100 million, it will be one of the largest known funds in support of mental health from a corporate entity.

“I’m so grateful to be surrounded by a team that’s helped make the Rare Impact Fund a reality,” Gomez said in a statement. “Since the brand’s inception, we wanted to find a way to give back to our community and further support people who needed access to mental health services, which have had a profound impact on my life.” “Rare Beauty is focused on helping people feel more connected to one another and less alone in the world,” Gomez continued. “The Rare Impact Fund will make a direct impact on many lives and, ultimately, make a difference in the world. I’m proud of the work we’ve begun to do with our partners to offer these services to anyone who needs support.” In addition to the Rare Impact Fund, Gomez’s beauty brand has launched the Rare Beauty Mental Health Council which is an expert team composed of advisers from leading universities, organizations, and companies focused on promoting the importance of mental health.

The title of the makeup line nods to her third studio album Rare which released at the beginning of the year and debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard charts. Rare Beauty aims at breaking down unrealistic standards of perfection and is set on being much more than just a beauty brand by creating a positive impact on society and mental health.
