Selena Gomez, who previously opened up to Vogue about seeing a “shrink” five times a week, has started a new mental health platform, Wondermind, with her mother Mandy Teefey, and The Newsette founder and CEO Daniella Pierson, set to launch on February 2022. Determined to highlight mental health issues online, offer educational content, and end the stigma around the topic, Gomez admitted to the struggle of finding a safe space to engage with supportive and uplifting content online.

The Come and Get It singer previously also opened up on Miley Cyrus’s Instagram show Bright Minded about having bipolar disorder. “I went to one of the best mental hospitals in America, McLean Hospital, and I discussed that after years of going through a lot of different things, I realized that I was bipolar,” she revealed.

According to the Wondermind launch video, Teefey has been dealing with obsessive compulsive disorder ever since she was a child. However, she was misdiagnosed for 20 years to have bipolar disorder when in reality, what she had was attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and trauma. The lack of information and reliable sources available to embrace the mental health community invited a larger calling to provide the world a platform where people felt comfortable enough to join, openly discuss their issues, and engage with content about mental health.

At its very core, Wondermind is  a space offering users a ‘mental fitness’ experience, where people can follow daily exercises that strengthen their minds. “Your mind is truly like a muscle, and to work on it every single day, it does require content and tools, and we’re so happy to deliver that to you all,” Pierson revealed in a video. The welcome video also hinted that a podcast hosted by Teefey will soon be released, allowing others to share their challenges with notable psychiatrists, athletes, and celebrities that. “I’m so excited about Wondermind because I want there to be a place of people coming together and understanding that they’re not alone,” Gomez shared.
