Ramadan is here, and your daily intake of water is about to change dramatically. With fasts running over 14 hours this year, daily dehydration can wreak havoc on your skin, hair, and nails. Along with the intensifying summer heat, a lack of H2O will leave your dermis dull and breakout-prone, lips excessively dry, and hair with a lot to be desired.

By making sure that you receive all of your daily nutrients during iftar and suhoor (remember: eight glasses of water is minimum,) and making tweaks to your beauty routine, you can ensure that you stay radiant throughout the blessed Holy Month.

Exfoliate once a week

Exfoliating eliminates the buildup of dead skin cells and prevents clogged pores, which ultimately leads to breakouts. Scrubbing the skin also effectively removes makeup residue and allows your products to penetrate into the skin for maximum impact. However, it isn’t just reserved for the skin – dehydrated lips will benefit from daily scrubbing too.

Moisturize regularly

Use a nourishing moisturizer twice a day – in the AM and PM – after thorough cleansing. The thought of applying oil on your face may seem counterproductive, but a nourishing facial oil penetrates deep into the dermis, helping to plump and protect it.

Don’t neglect your hair…

Dehydration can play a key role in the overall strength and health of your mane. Water is the main source of energy for growing hair, and is also responsible for carrying essential vitamins to the scalp. A deficit in hydration can result in slower hair growth and, sometimes, even hair loss. Opt for a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner packed with natural oils for the Holy Month. Dehydrated strands will benefit from a nourishing hair mask at least once a week. Coconut oil penetrates deep into the follicles to help promote luster, softness, and shine.

Or nails

Brittle, weak nails are often caused by dehydration. To prevent splitting, breakage, and dry cuticles, soak your nails with a nourishing cuticle oil before bed. Opt for a breathable nail formula infused with healing ingredients such as argan oil, vitamin C and pro-vitamin B5. The porous formulas feature technology similar to that of contact lenses, allowing water to penetrate through the polish and reach the nail bed, making it suitable for practicing Muslims.
