It’s only been a few months since lockdown. A time when all of our beauty routines and upkeep was put on hold. Since surgeries have been allowed to open up, people have prioritized certain treatments over others. One of the region’s most trusted plastic surgeons Dr. Jaffer Khan who is also the medical director and head consultant at Aesthetics International shares with us what treatments have been the top of his patient’s lists.
Has there been an increase in non-surgical body treatments post-lockdown?
Yes, we have definitely seen an increase in non-surgical body treatments, particularly fat freezing through CoolSculpting but also through radiofrequency and ultrasound treatments such as Velashape and BTL [a non-surgical treatment that tightens and tones].
Why do you think this is?
The pandemic forced many of us to stay at home, away from gyms and also outdoor activities. This decrease in physical exercise coupled with eating resulted in weight and fat gain.
Is there a common problem area that patients want to mainly focus on?
We have seen an increase in treatments for the midsection area and treatments such as Coolsculpting has helped this. We have also seen an increase in demand for treatments around the thigh area.
How does Velashape III work to combat cellulite?
VelaShape III is the first and only technology that combines Elōs with vacuum and tissue manipulation to reduce the volume and appearance of fat tissues. The Elōs technology is a combination of infrared light, coupled with radiofrequency energy and vacuum, which causes deep heating of the fat cells, their surrounding connective tissue, and the underlying dermal collagen fibers. Ultimately this contours and slims stubborn areas, such as arms, stomach, waist, lower back fat, hips, bottoms, and thighs.
How does the treatment feel?
VelaShape III is designed to accommodate a patient’s sensitivity and comfort level and has been described as ‘warm deep tissue massage’.
How long is each session?
It depends upon the area, but generally 45 minutes to 1 hour.
How long do the results last for and how many treatments do you need?
Gradual improvement of the treated area can be seen following the first treatment – with the skin’s surface of the treated area feeling smoother and firmer. We recommend a minimum of three to four sessions. Velashape III also has a satisfaction rate of 97% post-treatment. Of course, this is no magic pill and must be maintained through a healthy lifestyle and mindful eating.
What is BTL and what does it do?
BTL Exilis Elite is a monopolar radiofrequency device offering a non-invasive treatment of different skin conditions such as wrinkles, skin laxity, and excessive fat. Exilis can be used on the face for wrinkle reduction and skin laxity improvement and the body, for fat reduction but more specifically, skin tightening.
Can it be used on all areas of the body?
Yes, it is applicable to all areas of the body.
What age group is this treatment best for?
Exilis is ideal for anyone looking for a preventative treatment or a more dramatic cosmetic improvement once they begin to notice signs of aging. It is also ideal for those looking for a solution to excess fat or skin in the specific “stubborn” area.
How many treatments do you need to see the best results?
Depending on the treated area and skin condition, most patients undergo between two to four treatments scheduled seven to 10 days apart.
Duration of the session?
Each treatment of a specific area usually takes from four to 30 minutes.
Is there anything we can do in-between treatments at home?
As always, maintaining a healthy and active lifestyle, staying hydrated and mindful eating ensures continuity between body contouring treatments.
What has been the most popular facial treatment?
The Deep Cleansing Facial has become a popular treatment. The struggle with ‘Maskne’ is very real! Our deep clean treatment includes a steam with manual extractions and this is a treatment that is tricky to do at home because extractions are best left to the professionals. Coupled with the intense Dubai heat, we have seen an increase for not only our deep cleansing but also HydraFacial.
Who is this facial best-suited to?
Just as the name indicates, a deep cleaning facial provides deep cleaning. This cleansing helps rid the pores of any unwanted buildup of oil, toxins, dirt, and bacteria which if left unattended can lead to acne and premature aging. A deep cleansing facial is a good choice if your skin lacks moisture and is prone to breakouts. We recommend this facial to anyone who wishes to complement their skincare regime as it is a basic one but also a must-have!
How many sessions do we need before we see results?
Patients will experience the benefits after one session but we recommend coming in once a month to ensure the buildup is kept under control.
Duration of treatment?
Usually around 45 minutes to 1 hour.
