Pink Makeup is Back (And It’s All Good)

Pink is back. Not just the pepto pinks we’ve seen on the runway at Gucci or in soft silks at Valentino––the trending color has taken to the beauty counters in many forms, from bold brights to delicate pastels. It’s a trend that will work for every woman and any skin tone.
“The girl is more grown up this season, so we have pared it back a bit and given the lip an acid, fluoro, tutti frutti update,” says makeup artist Lynsey Alexander backstage at Mary Katrantzou. For spring, rethink bold red lipstick and swap it for garden rose pink, or a daredevil deep fuchsia.

At Paul Smith’s spring show, makeup artist Petros Petrohilos opted for a more muted approach to the emerging beauty look, featuring a broad pastel pink eyeshadow blended evenly across the eye socket. “I wanted the girls to look fresh and youthful—pastel pink on the eyes conveyed this beautifully and made [the look] modern,” adds Petrohilos. The secret to keeping this look far flung from the ‘80s? “No mascara,” the makeup artist emphasizes. “It almost looks like a continuation of the girl’s skin.”
