Watch Pat McGrath Turn a Model Into a Human Chandelier at Schiaparelli

Schiaparelli designer Daniel Roseberry told Vogue Runway director Nicole Phelps that he’s leaning into the “madness of Elsa’s approach” when it came to designing the spring 2024 collection. Needing a beauty look to pair with this inspiring “madness,” he knew there was no better partner than makeup mad genius herself Pat McGrath.

Between the parade of perfectly-lined red lips and Kendall Jenner’s show-closing hair flip came a model somewhat subtly dressed in a black surrealist halter dress—face and décolleté completely covered in clear crystals. McGrath and Roseberry have collaborated in past seasons on super-crystal looks (seen on both show attendee Doja Cat and models), but the freshness of spring 2024’s look came in the reference and material.

“This season, Schiaparelli was all about the love of fashion and a feeling of effortless, modern glamour,” McGrath tells Vogue exclusively. “The crystal look was the ultimate representation of that glamour, and a continuation of the 3-dimensional looks I’ve created for seasons’ past.”

McGrath and her team of dedicated makeup artists spent four-and-a-half hours creating this single beauty, named “Falling Crystals,” look before the model took to the runway. There were thousands of beads glued to the model’s face, meant to give the appearance of dripping shimmer.
