The first Tuesday of May holds a special place in many a Vogue editor’s heart. The reason? It’s Judgement Day. The morning after the night before (the night being the Met Gala), it’s a time to sit back and reflect on all of the beauty moments – the good, the bad, and the… unexpected.

With its theme of gilded glamour, this year’s Met did not disappoint on the beauty front. There was Kim Kardashian’s peroxide blonde tribute to Marilyn Monroe, Precious Lee’s epic feline flick, and Kaia Gerber’s sumptuous Pre-Raphaelite curls. But the real standouts were those guests who approached the theme literally, with celebrities such as Cara Delevingne, Nicki Minaj and Naomi Campbell literally gilding themselves with glittering embellishments, gold leaf and glistening metallic hues.

Below, Vogue rounds up the best beauty moments that nailed the gilded glamour brief on the night.

Lucy Boynton’s champagne lashes

What better way to embody gilded glamour than with pearl- and crystal-adorned lashes? Actor Lucy Boynton and makeup artist Jo Baker showed us how it’s done.

Naomi Campbell’s facial jewels

Leave it to Naomi Campbell to steal the show with glittering facial jewels that mimicked the designs on her custom Burberry gown – applied masterfully by make-up legend Pat McGrath.

Cara Delevingne’s gold leaf glamour

Why come dripping in diamonds when you can literally gild yourself in gold body paint? Finishing off the look, Cara opted for a gold body chain and an embellished eye, because, sometimes more really is more.

Nicki Minaj’s body embellishments

Leaning heavily into the theme was the Burberry-clad Nicki Minaj, who glittered and gleamed with a constellation of jewels dotted around her face, arms and décolletage – the work of Pat McGrath.

Lily James’s ice-blue eyelids

Less about gilding and more about frosting, Lily James looked resplendent with her shimmering, icy-blue lids courtesy of Charlotte Tilbury.

Jodi Turner-Smith’s bejewelled brows

We need to talk about Jodi Turner-Smith’s bedazzled brows. No, you’re not wrong, that really is a cluster of crystals adorning the arch of Jodi’s brows.

Emma Chamberlain’s bronze sheen

Here’s YouTube sensation Emma Chamberlain fulfilling the assignment with her bronzed lids. One of the more subtle looks, sure, but it definitely still packs a gilded punch.

Fredrik Robertsson’s pearlescent adornments

You could be forgiven for mistaking Fredrik Robertsson for one Jared Leto, but never for overlooking the Swedish creative director’s prowess when it comes to beauty. And for his first Met Gala, he didn’t disappointment, enlisting fellow Swedish import Linda Hallberg to transform him into a pearl-embellished futuristic dream.
