Model Lily Donaldson Channels Bedouin in Egypt

When in Egypt, do as the locals do – that appears to be the message behind Lily Donaldson’s most recent selfie, shared with her 1 million Instagram followers. The British beauty posted a photo against the backdrop of the Giza pyramids swathed in a white cover-up that cloaked everything except her icy blue gaze. The photograph was simply captioned “Bedouin,” referencing the desert-dwellers of the Middle East and North Africa. Asides from offering protection from the searing Sahara heat and dust, the model’s veil nodded to the sartorial culture of Egypt.

The 30-year-old joins a lineup of other supermodels who flawlessly turned heads in a scarf. Gigi Hadid, Kendall Jenner, Chanel Iman, and Alessandra Ambrosio have all reached for the traditional veil while vacationing in the region.

The Victoria’s Secret Angel, who was discovered on the streets of London back in 2003, continues to rise in star power. The Vogue cover girl has been booked as the star of brand campaigns for Burberry, Balenciaga, and Lanvin and has walked for prestigious fashion houses such as Balmain, Elie Saab, and Fendi.
