The beauty look at Lanvin’s fall/winter 2020 show reflected the Parisian glamour the house is steeped in. An ode to the benefits of a really good blow dry, fluttery femme fatale lashes and a glossy pout, the look was at once prim and polished, and effortlessly cool.
Here were “rich girl” blow dries; the sort preferred by a grand dame at a cocktail soirée in the 8th arrondissement. Think gentle waves brushed back to create height, and the kind of shine that goes hand in hand with an expensive lifestyle (or some effective and expertly deployed products).
But beneath the refined, butter-wouldn’t-melt polish lurked a debaucherous edge that made the look totally modern. A lick of gel through roots added an unkempt finish to hair that appeared to have been raked through with fingers; eyelashes were fluttery at first glance, but on closer inspection revealed to be clumpy and lived-in; and deepening shades of pink gloss made lips look less girlish and precise, more just-been-kissed.
