All the Details Behind Jennifer Lopez’s Wedding Day Hair Look

It was the surprise wedding of the weekend: Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck wed on Saturday in an intimate ceremony in Las Vegas. The couple—known to many as #Bennifer—obtained their marriage license in Clark County, Nevada, and Lopez shared that she will even be changing her name to Jennifer Affleck. While the ceremony was kept small and private, Lopez shared a first glimpse at her wedding dress—and wedding beauty—on her website soon after. The bride walked down the aisle in a white dress “from an old movie,” while her glam for the affair included sleek, bouncy hair done by her go-to pro stylist Chris Appleton.

For the special day, Appleton tells Vogue that he wanted a timeless—and not too fussy— hairstyle that complemented JLo’s natural beauty. “We felt the hair shouldn’t be overly done,” says Appleton. “I pulled back the front of the hair on either side to keep the face open—still with the illusion of the hair being down. The technique was all about getting a gorgeous, luxe finish to the hair. I wanted an effortless, flowy feeling—that when she walked, the hair bounced.” He adds that he also wanted her shiny, loose locks to work with her dress—not distract from it. “To me, good hair isn’t about taking over the look—it’s about complementing it,” he says. “It was less Vegas, and more about being timeless.”

To achieve the look, Appleton first gave Lopez a “classic blowout” and then followed it up with a large three-inch barrel curling iron, “to give it that extra kick of love,” says Appleton. He finished off the look with an anti-humidity spray, shine spray, and hair spray to keep it all in place. As someone who has consistently worked with Lopez over the years—he’s responsible for her equally bouncy Super Bowl curls—the stylist says her wedding day look is one of his favorites yet. “It was such an amazing day and I was honored to be a part of it,” says Appleton. “We were like two kids getting ready and playing dress up.”
