After surprising us all on with a picture posted to her Instagram of her lying back in bed, looking blissfully happy, alongside the caption “Sadie! #iykyk [if you know, you know’]”, it was quickly confirmed that Jennifer Lopez had married Ben Affleck at Las Vegas’ Little White Chapel.
Ever since, we’ve developed a deep fascination with all things Jennifer Lopez, from her wedding manicure shade to her incredible fashion prowess.
The star is currently honeymooning with her new husband in Paris before gearing up to host a lavish wedding for family and friends at Ben’s mansion in Georgia. So how, at 53, does Jennifer look so good… and what can we glean from her beauty and wellness regime to look as fantastic as she does? Thankfully, J.Lo has spoken candidly about the skincare, fitness, and wellness secrets she swears by, including a strict morning regime of positive affirmations, and we are taking many, many notes.
Want in? We’ve rounded up the 6 non-negotiable secrets the star swears by for exuding health and happiness.
The morning mantra she swears by
J.Lo recently treated her fans to a much-sought-after insight into her morning routine, sharing the wellness ritual she never misses in the morning. The star revealed: “Right outside my shower I have a little box of affirmation cards. This is the affirmation card I pulled out today, it says, ‘Your success and happiness lies in you. Resolve to keep happy and you and your joy and you shall form an invincible host against difficulties.’
“I’m going to resolve to keep happy no matter what. It’s a promise you make to yourself. My success and my happiness lie in me,” she said of the card. “I feed my soul with an affirmation, not looking at my phone yet. Just setting myself up right for the day with the right intentions and the right thoughts, feeling positive.”
Affirmation cards have become hugely popular among celebrities lately, so how exactly do they work? “They are thoughtful first-person statements that encourage positive thinking, calm, and confidence,” explains Grace and Lightness. “They help you ponder ideas that leave you with a feeling of more peace, calm, and clarity than before.”

The fitness regime she practices four times a week
It’s clear that J.Lo works hard on her incredible physique (four times a week, to be precise). The star works out with holistic weight trainer David Kirsch, who wrote The Ultimate New York Body Plan. According to his website, David’s holistic approach to wellness encompasses a ‘disciplined exercise, nutrition, and supplements regimen’ and is rooted in his philosophy of “Sound Mind, Sound Body” – to help his clients achieve harmony of mind, body, and spirit. He says his workouts are customized and deliver lasting results – and if J.Lo’s body is anything to go by, we believe it. When Jennifer is in L.A., she works out with Gwyneth Paltrow and Kim Kardashian’s go-to guru, Tracy Anderson, who is known for her effective, all-over body workouts. “I like the balance that the two different trainers give me,” says Jen. “They have two totally different approaches. I like switching it up with my body.”
SPF, every single day
It’s probably the single piece of advice every celebrity swears by but Jen is proof you really should wear a protective SPF every day – even when it’s not sunny. Speaking about her trusty beauty hack during an interview on Live with Kelly and Ryan in January of 2021, she shared: “The one thing I’ve done since my late teens/early 20s is wearing sunscreen. A lot of people don’t use it every day and only wear it when it’s super sunny or when they go to the beach, but I got lucky because a dermatologist told me early on to wear sunscreen every day.”
A clean lifestyle
J.Lo famously told US Weekly that she doesn’t drink alcohol or caffeine and refrains from smoking. “That really wrecks your skin as you get older,” she said. And speaking to Harper’s Bazaar in 2018, her then-fiancé Alex Rodriguez said: “She doesn’t drink, doesn’t smoke. She lives a very clean life,” Tracy Anderson also revealed that the star eats organic, nutrient-dense foods and avoids processed foods and refined sugar. So long, Whispering Angel.
The cream she can’t live without
Among her many talents — dancing, acting, performing, serving looks — Jen is also, like many of her famous colleagues, a beauty brand owner. And make no mistake, J.Lo Beauty has some hits on its roster. Jihan over at Allure tried That Big Screen SPF 30 Moisturiser for Allure last year and says it’s one of the few products that have made it into her regular roster. “It also set my expectations high when I heard that the brand was launching a Firm + Flaunt Targeted Booty Balm ($65 / £54),” she said. The balm is the first offering from the brand’s new body line (launched July 24, Jennifer’s 53rd birthday) and it’s already, as the kids say, passing the vibe check. In addition to rich hydration, this formula delivers, almost instantly, a tighter, firmer feel to your skin. While it is marketed as a product for your butt, it’s great to use all over your body. Getting the right amount of shut-eye
The main wellness secret J.Lo swears by is getting a minimum of seven hours of sleep a night, explained in the latest edition of her On The JLo newsletter: “We don’t value sleep. We value grinding and working hard – and admittedly, nobody gets caught up in that rat race more than me.
“I’ve found, however, that sleep to me is the most underrated beauty secret out there. It’s one of the tenets of JLo Beauty and part of my 5S’s: Sunscreen, Serum, Supplements, (vivir) Sano and SLEEP! Getting at least 7 to 9 hours of sleep each night can be a game changer.”
The star used to survive on around five hours a night, which led to crippling panic attacks, of which she said: “Since then, I’ve tried to live a very healthy and balanced life. As I slept more and took care of myself, I realized it was about pro-living versus anti-aging … I think of sleep like a little time machine. You lay down and you go into a space where you preserve yourself and then you come out a new, younger person than you were before.”
Anyone else planning an early night tonight?
