Jennifer Lopez has switched up her hairstyle many times before, but rarely do we see her try a new hair color. The Bronx-raised performer has stayed pretty consistent with her golden blonde-highlighted hair… until recently, when she made the sudden switch to pastel pink.
Hairstylist Chris Appleton, who has long worked with the Leo singer, shared a photo of the new cotton candy shade on December 2. J.Lo’s tousled hair is parted down the middle with textured waves that give the look an edgier appearance than we are used to from the star — and we gotta say she’s pulling the choppy cut off very well. Though the longest pieces of hair end a few inches below her shoulders, this layered cut starts with short pieces that fall right around her chin. At her roots, there is a bit of a brown color to create a light ombré effect for a more seamless look.

But now, the real question: Is this a throwback, or is this truly new news? This pastel pink hair was first spotted on J.Lo in October 2021 for a DSW campaign, and we didn’t expect to see it make a reappearance on the star, so we’re kinda putting our money on this being a look back at a brief-but-iconic moment.
However, pink has remained the it hair color throughout the pandemic, so it’s not out of the question that Lopez might have decided to take another chance with the bright hue. Though there’s not really one reason as to why this color became so popular, hairstylists and neuropsychologists suspected that pink invokes happiness and joy for people, which has been very much needed throughout the uncertainty of the last few years.
Even if the color was truly short-lived, we hope this Appleton TBT inspires the Hustlers star to try another switch-up soon. May we suggest the coppery hue that’s been everywhere recently?
