Sure, Fashion Month is a great time to scope out future fashions, get a head start on trends, and imagine yourself wearing priceless couture, but if you’re a celebrity attendee, it’s also the best time to debut a major hair color or style change. Just ask Blackpink’s Jennie, who officially entered her blonde era for the Chanel show during Paris Fashion Week.
Jennie, who has been working with Chanel and Chanel Beauty since 2017, made a splash at the show with a head full of pale, straight blonde hair. Jennie’s blonde is a gorgeous blend of platinum and beige blonde—not a silvery-white blonde, but not too gold-toned either. She wore her hair parted in the center and ultra-, ultra-straight down her shoulders. “I have new blonde hair and this pop of color that I chose is a different look for Chanel,” Jennie told WWD of the transformation, also referencing her turquoise sweater and hot pants outfit. As for the inspiration behind the blonde, she coyly said “Maybe my new single…” (The song, “Mantra,” drops on October 11.)
Jennie’s blonde came as a shock and surprise to fans, given that she’s been (mostly) brunette for years, save for a few brief forays into other shades. In 2022, she tried peachy copper orange hair, and in 2019, she wore long, bright blonde waves for Blackpink’s “Kill This Love” video.
While we don’t know how long Jennie will stay blonde, we do know that Jennie isn’t alone in embracing brighter tones as the weather cools. Hailey Bieber also lightened up for the season, debuting dimensional amber blonde highlights and transitioning away from her dark brunette bob. Sure, it’s fun to go darker for the advent of autumn, but as Bieber and Jennie prove, there are no hard and fast rules about seasonal color changes.
