Royal weddings are loved by all, regardless of what country they are from. As all eyes are on the radiant brides, close attention is paid to not only their wedding dresses but also their hairstyle and makeup. On February 12, 1951, Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi of Iran married Princess Soraya Esfandiary-Bakhtiary dressed in a voluminous silver lamé gown which shared the spotlight with the Princess’ decision of leaving the veil out of her ensemble entirely. In turn, her tiara was tucked into in her short raven bob, leaving the focus on her strong brows.
Meghan Markle surprised everyone when it was revealed that the simple yet stunning makeup look on her wedding day was achieved by her friend and New York-based makeup artist Daniel Martin. Her look featured a subtle pair of false lashes to define the eyes, a nude lip, and the slightest amount of highlighter to catch the sun in the best ways. The minimalistic nature of her makeup was emphasized by the Duchess’ freckles peeking through her foundation. She wore her hair back in an effortless chignon created by French-born stylist Serge Normant and topped with a long veil attached to a diamond bandeau tiara.
A discussion on royal wedding makeup looks is not complete without mentioning Kate Middleton‘s, as in 2011, the Duchess of Cambridge did her own makeup for her big day. According to the wedding planner Mark Niemierko, Middleton was equipped with the skills to do her own makeup after a series of private lessons with London-based makeup artist Arabella Preston. The highlight of her makeup look was Middleton’s eyes with black liner worn across her lids and lower lash lines as well as mascara coating top and bottom lashes. The rest of her look was kept simple with a sweep of pink blush on her cheeks and a sheer pink lip. Under the hand-embroidered veil, Middleton wore her hair in a pinned half-up and half-down style.
