Huda Beauty has announced that it will be donating $500,000 to support the #BlackLivesMatter movement. Joining a host of other beauty brands, the Dubai based powerhouse led by American Iraqi sisters Huda and Mona Kattan is standing in solidarity with the black community. The donation goes to the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People or NAACP, an organization that aims to advance justice for African Americans.

Speaking to Vogue Arabia exclusively Mona Kattan says, “Growing up in the United States as a minority, I completely understand how it feels for people to be racist against you. It’s always been something really near and dear to our hearts because we feel like its completely unfair and horrible the way people are being treated. Our hearts are with the people in the US right now and all people of color and all of the people who are protesting for peace. We really hope that everyone is able to get through these rough times and some change and progress can be made. We are praying for better times for everyone.”

She continues, “We know in order for things to change there needs to be disruption. Hopefully, all of these protests and parades will lead to people becoming more aware and in tune with how serious the changes are that need to be made. How we need to wake up and take this very seriously and how crucially justice needs to be changed in the US. We want to support everyone as much as we possibly can and make as much impact as we possibly can. We want to be change-makers. It’s hard being so far away but we want to do the best we possibly can be based in Dubai. We still want to do whatever we can to support everyone and to help everyone in these crazy times.”
