If you’ve been glued to Netflix’s Emily In Paris, it’s likely you’ll have noticed the protagonist’s perfect hair. Emily, played by our November cover star Lily Collins, has the most immaculate waves set through her long brunette locks. It’s show-stopping hair that is almost as distracting as heartthrob Gabriel and his ocean-blue eyes.

So how to recreate these curls – the kind that look bouncy but not “done”, and don’t immediately fall out? The hairstylist behind the look, Mike Desir, shares his three top tips:

Use hairspray

“You need a product that can give you great hold and soft texture,” he advises. “I love using Bumble and Bumble Spray De Mode Hairspray. ”

Prep the hair

“I started by spraying the hairspray on sections of hair and then dried it in using the Dyson Supersonic hairdryer. Because I was styling Lily’s hair every day during filming, I worried that her hair would get damaged by heat, but the Dyson prevents that. It also imparts shine and reduces frizz.”

Create curls like Emily’s

“I used a one-inch curling iron [GHD’s Curve Soft Curl Tong is just over an inch] for her curls. First you have to decide on how tight you want them to be – taking smaller sections will create a tighter loop pattern and larger sections will create looser waves. Twist the section of hair around the tong, away from the face, wait for a few seconds and then let hair down. Do the same thing uniformly all around the head. Then, when it’s done, I like to use a large comb to brush the waves to keep them all together. Et voila!”

Below, five times Emily’s hair stole all the limelight on the Netflix show.
