This Versatile Hair Trend Looks Good on Everybody

Down? Up? Or somewhere in between? Lots of us are opting for hair that’s neither here nor there this autumn, with Google searches for “half-up half-down hairstyles” spiking by 70%. Everyone from Sydney Sweeney to Rosie Huntington-Whiteley has walked the red carpet sporting a half-up hairstyle in recent months – and to ultra glamorous effect. A great look to try if you’re keen to keep your hair off your face but don’t want the formality of a full-on up-do, the half-up pony lends a touch of polish without appearing try-hard.

Lean into the girlish aesthetic by securing your half ponytail with a velvet ribbon, or make like Sarah Jessica Parker, who recently fastened an oversized satin bow in hers to attend a ballet performance. Huntington-Whiteley’s version, featuring a knot at the top and glossy waves at the ends, is a perfect example of expensive-looking hair. You can also make use of a ’90s claw clip, á la Olivia Rodrigo, or try a twisted bun, like Gemma Chan.

However you do it, the half-up half-down is perfect for party season and beyond. Scroll on for celebrity inspiration.
