Alessandro Michele has been the creative director of Gucci for two years and has redefined the zeitgeist of cool with his eccentric-aristo aesthetic. Now, Michele launches his debut fragrance, Gucci Guilty Absolute. The fragrance is a reimagined interpretation of Gucci Guilty, the house’s iconic cologne. A fragrance collector himself, Michele met with renowned perfumer Alberto Morillas, who is responsible for some of the most famous fragrances, including Kenzo Flower, Bulgari Omnia, and Cartier Panthere de Cartier, to create something that was “like no other.” Morillas recalls: “Alessandro wanted to have a warm leather blend, not too commercial with a special mix of wood and something that reflected the Gucci spirit.”

Morillas set out to conjure up a unique molecule titled “LeatherWood” — which cost the company millions of dollars to produce — that isn’t present in any other perfume available on the market. Mixed with potent doses of patchouli, the result is a remarkably mysterious scent that works with both the female and male body chemistry. The Italian designer sat with the perfumer for four sessions before settling on a scent. Morillas laid out different vials for Michele’s review. He chose the twenty fifth, which coincidentally happens to be his lucky number.
