Fall is here, and what better way to celebrate than by reinvigorating your skincare routine with a stealthy skincare purchase (or two). As the seasons change and cooler months roll in, it’s a myth that we need to throw out all of our “summer” formulas in favor of winter ones. But what is key is to be aware that a change in temperature can impact our skin barrier, causing dryness, flakiness, and other skin issues.
Here are some easy fall skincare updates to make for your freshest, most luminous skin yet.
Hydrate!
Hydrated skin is happy skin, whatever time of year it is, so make sure you’re incorporating ingredients like hyaluronic acid, squalane and panthenol for a plump, even-toned glow. Mantle’s Hydra Serum harnesses the wonders of – yep – jellyfish mucin and deep sea algae to hydrate and restore the skin barrier, while Summer Fridays’s new Jet Lag Deep Hydration Serum marries hyaluronic acid with squalane, colloidal oatmeal and aloe to soothe as it quenches dry skin’s thirst.
Repair and restore
When the skin barrier becomes impaired due to wind, cold or constantly going between central heating and the outdoors, make sure you’ve got a skincare survival kit to help repair it. Susanne Kaufmann’s new Ectoin Repair Serum is clinically proven to do this, while also hydrating, soothing irritation and protecting against environmental aggressors. With the antioxidant Q10 and ectoin, it also reduces redness. Meanwhile Dr Jart+’s Intensive Soothing Repair Serum Mask promises calmer-looking skin in 15 minutes, thanks to a blend of cica and allantoin plus a cellulose mask delivery system. Other heroes include Allies of Skin’s Copper Tripeptide and Ectoin Repair Serum and Moussse’s new Moisture Rush Cream.
Work on your skin concerns
While dermatologists agree that you shouldn’t stop using active ingredients in the summer, many of us still opt for a more relaxed take on our skincare routines during this time. Fall is a great season to treat the issues you’re suffering from, whether that’s uneven skin tone or a lackluster appearance.
For hyperpigmentation? Try La Roche-Posay’s Mela B3 Serum. Treat acne inside and out with The Nue Co’s Barrier Clear Treatment and the corresponding oral probiotic. To firm and lift, SkinCeuticals’s P-Tiox is incredible, while Paula’s Choice Clinical Pro Retinaldehyde Dual-Retinoid Treatment will stimulate collagen production, plump and smooth fine lines. And last but not least, Omorovicza’s Queen Serum will give you your glow back and soften the appearance of wrinkles.
Brighten your eyes
It’s eye cream season. The skin in this area is significantly thinner than the rest of the face, which means that it needs extra TLC to look – and, more importantly, feel – healthy during the cooler months. The good news is that there are a number of new formulas that promise to tackle dark circles, hydrate and firm – from MZ Skin’s Microtox Tightening Eye Serum which is the next best thing to Botox, to CeraVe’s Skin Renewing Eye Cream, an excellent all-rounder.
Choose hybrid base products
You don’t have to rely solely on your skincare to improve your skin. Many new complexion products are formulated with hardworking active ingredients that work on your skin while you wear them – hybrid beauty at its finest.
