Achieving a sleek blowout has been made easier with the Dyson Supersonic hair dryer’s newest tool: the flyaway attachment, which smooths stray hairs while minimizing heat damage. With the flyaway attachment, you no longer have to hold a brush and blow-dry at the same time, or go over your hair with a flat iron, since the distinctly shaped tool tames frizz and flyaways for a salon-like look.
The attachment uses the Coanda effect, which originated as a solution for stylists to tame flyaways without using excessive heat. A vast amount of styling data, as well as more than 10,000 hours of professional trials by 420 stylists across the world, have gone into the creation of the piece. According to Emma Sheldon, Dyson haircare category director, Dyson engineers’ fascination with airflow is what led them to the Coanda technique, after observing stylists using the “brush and blow-dryer” technique. “Traditionally, this skilled technique involves the stylist using a round brush to section and manage the hair, while directing airflow from the dryer to push the flyaways into the style and out of sight,” she says. “We set out to find a way to mechanize this method for the everyday styler. The new Dyson flyaway attachment harnesses the phenomenon of Coanda to smooth flyaways out of sight, without exposing the hair to extreme heat damage.”
The Dyson Supersonic hair dryer is powered by the digital motor V9, which enables it to spin at up to 111,000 rpm, making it six times faster than other hair dryer motors. Features like intelligent heat control work to regulate heat, preventing extreme heat damage, while the air multiplier ensures that there is no compromise in speed and efficiency by amplifying the flow by three times. The flyaway attachment is an addition to a range of tools for various hair types including textured or curly hair, such as the diffuser, gentle air attachment, smoothing nozzle, styling concentrator, and wide tooth comb.
To mark Dyson’s fifth anniversary, a special video offers insight into the many ways in which the Dyson Supersonic hair dryer and flyaway attachment can be used to recreate iconic looks from just about any time period.
The new flyaway attachment can be purchased at Dyson.ae or at local Dyson demo spaces.
