Disclaimer: We don’t use the term game-changing lightly but for this new launch, it was necessary. Dyson has finally announced its latest step into the world of beauty technology, the Dyson Airwrap (which is one of the hardest secrets those lucky enough to preview the device have probably had to keep). A styling tool for your hair, the device uses jets of air to create everything from voluminous curls to natural waves, and even a smooth blow-dry from the comfort of your home. And, it works. Flawlessly in fact.

Styling hair from wet to dry, the Airwrap works with air meaning the need for extreme heat is cut from your routine. Using Dyson’s digital motor, a team of aerodynamic engineers looked to the Coanda effect for inspiration. Occurring when a high-speed jet of air flows across a surface, the variances in pressure causes the airflow to attach itself to said surface. With six air slots located along the barrel of the Airwrap, the Coanda effect allows hair to curl around the barrel. Following the triumph of the Dyson Supersonic, James Dyson, founder and inventor behind Dyson, says, “We have been obsessively manipulating airflow for more than 25 years. It is one of our core expertise. Harnessing the power of Dyson’s digital motor, we have engineered a truly unique styling tool preventing extreme heat damage when styling. I’m immensely proud of what our engineers have achieved.”

This intelligent heat control arrives in the form of a glass bead thermistor. Measuring the temperature up to 40 times a second, it ensures that the heat of the device stays regulated, therefore not damaging hair. Cue a silky, smooth, and full-bodied look. Arriving with various attachments, the brushes have been carefully designed to suit all hair types and desired styles. A pre-styling dryer prepares hair for styling, a soft smoothing brush offers a blow-dry finish, while the barrels in various sizes can create show-stopping curls and waves. A firm smoothing brush has been created for those after a straighter look and, finally, a round brush adds volume and shape for those with thinner hair.

Attention to detail is key. User-friendly, the attachments can be changed with one click and with cool tips, you never have to burn your fingers again. For those opting for curls, symmetrical barrels mean you can create clockwise and anti-clockwise curls to frame your face. Reducing static during the styling process, the device features negative ions and a cool shot with a press of a button to set your style. As with every new device, there’s a learning curve at the beginning just to understand how to use it. From there, the ease at which you can use the device is set to up your hair styling game for good.
