As an ode to traditional Arabian beauty, Peter Philips, creative and image director of Christian Dior Makeup has renounced the Gen Z-favorite ‘no makeup makeup’ look and spired up a fearless and edgy homage to the women of Arabia, showing us that sometimes more really is more.
Arab eyes have been a feature portrayed across film and cinema for the world to admire; from Elizabeth Taylor’s portrayal of Cleopatra to Disney’s Jasmine animation, Middle Eastern depictions aren’t complete without that kohl wing.
Philips conspired with this artistic inspiration in mind when creating his dramatic and bold regenerated looks fit for royalty (or Elizabeth Taylor) herself. The artist used DiorShow On Stage Liner in matte black to adorn the eye in metallic chrome beading, reimagining a traditional look for the modern Arab woman.
Dior’s ‘New Look’ is another traditional mantra that deserves admiration. Widely recognized for its classic yet visionary approach to fashion and beauty, Dior has historically pushed the boundaries of creativity. Initiating in 1947, the eye-catching ‘New Look’ oozed ultra-femininity and extravagance. Philips has undoubtedly infused these bold looks with this perspective in mind.
Lips are elevated using Dior’s Addict Lipstick in shades 845 Vinyl Red and 812 Tartan while the Dior Rouge Bush delivers an intensely feminine look to the skin. This revamped appreciation of traditional beauty conveys a bold view of the modern Arab woman in all her glory.
