Clumpy Eyelashes Are Cool, So Says Dior

The words ‘clumpy’ and ‘eyelashes’ are rarely heard in the same sentence – until now. According to the beauty experts at Dior, overloaded mascara is no longer a faux pas. For its Spring 2018 show, makeup legend Peter Philips applied (extremely) generous amounts of jet black mascara – rendered by the Diorshow Pump’n’Volume lash brush – to the top and bottom lashes of the models backstage in a horizontal-to-vertical motion, creating a bold, clogged-up look that was surprisingly chic.

The retro look was inspired by Niki de Saint-Phalle, a French-American sculptor, painter, and filmmaker with close ties to the French maison. “I wanted to accentuate the eyes in a very spontaneous way, giving the impression of a young girl who had applied her own makeup,” reveals Philips.

The models’ complexions were left clean and fresh to further emphasize the eyes. After balancing out their skin tone with the new water-based Dior Forever Undercover foundation, Philips completed the look with a hint of color on the lips. The beauty takeaway here? Perfection is overrated, at least when it comes to the eyelashes.
