Dior’s Limited-Edition Makeup and Fragrance Collection Celebrates the Houndstooth Pattern

In 1938, Christian Dior introduced the first houndstooth pattern dress called ‘English Café’, which honored his childhood spent in Normandy, the region neighboring Great Britain. Fast forward to 2022, and the creative and image director of Dior Makeup, Peter Philips, has added this legendary print to La Collection Privée fragrances, and an exclusive makeup line in Dior’s limited series New Look Collection.

In Dior’s latest series, the hallmark house pattern is seen printed onto the cases of the brand’s lipstick range with the most intricate detailing—you’ll also notice that the cult pattern has been engraved along the sides of each lip color itself, creating an interesting textured effect. The shades include the 999 Velvet Finish in an iconic red that matches every skin tone and the 100 Nude Look Velvet Finish, along with rose woods, nudes, and a new 728 NU rose shade. Honoring the brand’s commitment to the environment, Rouge Dior also comes in a refillable couture case.

One can also find the houndstooth pattern added exclusively onto the packaging of three Privée fragrances: Gris Dior, Oud Isphahan, and Ambre Nuit. On the glass vials, the sharp print stands out in frosted effect until it slowly breaks apart into a free-floating petal motion for some added romance. To celebrate the timeless pattern, the brand also roped in Saudi Arabian actor Sarah Taibah, who lends her effortless grace to the frame dressed in fail-safe Dior pieces (don’t miss those houndstooth details on her ensembles) and the brand’s luxe makeup.

What inspired this new look, you ask? The answer is as simple as the houndstooth check itself. “Christian Dior was one of the first to introduce this traditionally masculine fabric pattern into his infinitely elegant couture creations,” Peter Philips explains. “This daring shift inspired me to create this limited-edition makeup collection, the New Look collection.” The result is a smart new look on your favorite beauty staples, proving that elegance is anything but predictable.
